Ego
We have slapped a price on Nature’s charity.
We have rooted Her chest of provisions,
Packaged them in plastic, sold them to those
Lucky enough to eat and drink, and buried
Our manufactured garbage under Her skin.
We took the movement of the Sun and reduced
His magnificence to numbers one through twelve.
Numbers push us forward around perfect circles.
We add up the years and count down the minutes
Until our end when time ceases to exist.
We try to organize our world through rational
Ideas and mathematical principles. We are
Content that our answers are correct though we
Invented the manner of reaching our solutions.
Do any laugh at our collective ego?
